Active COVID-19 cases in America reach 33.40% of global active cases.

One third of the people in the world who are sick today with COVID-19 are in America. Wear a mask, Americans.

“The number of United States active COVID-19 cases yesterday
reached 33.40% of the world’s total number of active cases.

Of the world’s 7,503,691 people who are still sick at home or hospitalized with COVID-19, one third of that number is in America,” notes Fred Harris a biostatistician with the Civil Society COVID-19 tracking group in Singapore and Japan.

This news comes at a time when testing in the United States has been substantially reduced for the Presidential election polls which opened Friday.

Recent estimates based on excess deaths in the United States plus a modest estimate of 0.411% Infection Fatality Rate (IFR), yields a true number of deaths due to COVID-19 in the United States to be 308,200. (Estimated COVID-19 including unreported likely-cause excess deaths to date).

“Infection fatality rates are considered as only best estimates until the pandemic has run its course and all the data is in,” cautions biostatistician Harris.

Expert criticism may compel return of the USA normal testing rates, recently cut back by Trump to help his election campaign

According to a CBS news report, broadcasted this afternoon around 3:00PM on WTOP radio in Washington DC,  the website of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention‘s (CDC) website was altered last month not by the CDC but by Trump campaign officials, against the strong opposition of the CDC causing consternation among healthcare experts all over North America and around the world.

The CDC website, now somewhat of a laughing stock, if it were not so pitifully out of step, has new guidelines for testing COVID-19 asymptomatic persons who may have been in contact with someone who has the disease.

This recent information comes following another conundrum wherein Robert Redfield, head of the CDC told Congress last Wednesday that for the time being, wearing a mask was far more critical to ending the COVID-19 Pandemic than a vaccine (which vaccine would not likely be available to the public until maybe the third quarter of 2021).

Read if you wish:  I am with Dr. Redfield. Wear your mask when you go out.

During the time of this ‘error’ or ‘sabatoge’, testing for COVID-19 number plummeted and so did case numbers.

The CDC website now contains more sensible guidelines.

“Due to the significance of asymptomatic and pre-symptomatic transmission, this guidance further reinforces the need to test asymptomatic persons, including close contacts of a person with documented SARS-CoV-2 infection,” it says, calling the change a clarification.

“Testing is recommended for all close contacts of persons with SARS-CoV-2 infection. Because of the potential for asymptomatic and pre-symptomatic transmission, it is important that contacts of individuals with SARS-CoV-2 infection be quickly identified and tested,” the CDC updated web site advises.

In other confusion emanating from the Trump election headquarters at the White House, following Robert Redfield’s statements on Wednesday, US President Trump has turned against the CDC director in pretty much the same manner he has attacked the NIH head, Dr. Tony Faucci. This week the kafuffle has been over masks and vaccines.

“If you’re asking me when is it [American COVID-19 vaccine] going to be generally available to the American public so we can begin to take advantage of vaccine to get back to our regular life, I think we’re probably looking at third … late second quarter, third quarter 2021,” Dr. Redfield told the U.S. Senate Appropriations subcommittee on labor, health and human services, education, and related agencies on Wednesday.

Note: On Friday, NIH Director Anthony Faucci told reporters the same information.

Trump said Friday that “massive amounts” of the COVID-19 vaccine “will be delivered through our great military and the general is one of our best and he’s ready to go,” whatever that means.
