Predicted global rise in COVID19 Omicron BA.5 started

WHO says world COVID-19 Case Sums up 20%

Driven by Omicron sub-lineage BA.4 and BA.5, cases are on the rise in 110 countries, causing overall global case sums to increase by 20% and deaths to rise in three of the six WHO regions even as the global figure remains relatively stable, explained Dr. Tedros of the World Health Organization on Wednesday at the weekly WHO briefing.

One scientist is saying that the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron BA.5 lineage is the worst the world has yet seen.

“The Omicron sub-variant BA.5 is the worst version of the [SARS-CoV-2] virus that we’ve seen,” Dr. Eric Topol, a professor of molecular medicine at Scripps Research and founder and director of the Scripps Research Translational Institute, wrote Monday.

“It [BA.5] takes immune escape, already extensive, to the next level, and, as a function of that, enhanced transmissibility, well beyond Omicron (BA.1) and other Omicron family variants that we’ve seen (including BA.1.1, BA.2, BA.2.12.1, and BA.4). You could say it’s not so bad because there hasn’t been a marked rise in hospitalizations and deaths as we saw with Omicron, but that’s only because we had such a striking adverse impact from Omicron, for which there is at least some cross-immunity (BA.1 to BA.5).

Experts say, mask upThe photo and its story: Experts suggest to be prepared for the BA.5, masking up this summer and fall is the best first step. Vaccinations must be kept up to date, the experts at CSPAC say. “Don’t wait for government to introduce mandates, because they probably should not in many countries where people are protecting themselves very well. Health-conscious folks take the initiative to protect oneself and family. The PPE in this image is 100% effective against contracting COVID-19 if PPE is worn correctly. A simple NIOSH N95 respirator mask is all one needs to be 95% safe,” says Dr. Nassima al Amouri, who is the medical director for The RINJ Foundation.
