It is a rare distinction that a US Washington DC Capitol Police officer is honoured in death for fighting back an insurrection against the US government.
The 200-year-old Capitol Police Force has only endured four such deaths in the line of duty. The impact of this death has struck the entire world as it is the result of the allegedly Donald Trump-led insurrection of 6 January 2021 against the USA government.

The import of this event is staggering. At exactly this time, hundreds of US Capitol Police and Washington DC police officers are encircling one of their own and one by one parading past the cremated remains of 42-year-old Officer Brian David Sicknick (July 30, 1978).
Officer Sicknick served his police force from 2008 util 2021. His resting place will be Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington County, Virginia.
Gladys and Charles Sicknick lost their youngest son because of Donald Trump lies that incited a riot and insurrection.

Brian David Sicknick, born July 30, 1978. New Brunswick, New Jersey
Died January 7, 2021 (aged 42) Washington, D.C.
Officer Sicknick was struck on the head with a heavy fire extinguisher while he was actively repelling rioters who invaded the US Capitol Building on the afternoon of 6 January.
Such blows often have a very bad outcome after a period of time. Officer Sicknick had sent a text message to one of his brothers that night, saying he had been “attacked” but was “OK”.
But at the Capitol Building, Officer Sicknick collapsed into a coma. He was resuscitated by CPR. By 7 January the damage from the head injury began to reveal itself.
Officer Sicknick suffered a stroke and blood clots were manifest. His condition worsened and he was intubated for a ventilator.
A handsome, polite, caring man reportedly of high integrity; a person who had served as a National Guard staff sergeant; died at 9:30 pm on 7 January despite valiant efforts to save his life.
